A common problem with the Yamaha 667.
A brass repair colleague remarked to me recently that he makes a lot of repairs on a particular bend on the Yamaha 667 and like-designed models. He made this comment while eye-balling my 667 that I have been using at the Opera lately.
In what can only be presumed as a design flaw on some Yamaha models, the point indicated in the photo below apparently has a tendency to break, according to my brass repair source. The tubing can separate from the first valve casing in some models.
“I make a lot of money on that little spot,” he says with a grin.
“Yes, you need to be careful,” chimes in a horn-playing colleague within earshot. “That tube can just pop out. I have seen it happen.”
Taking heed of their warning, I now eye this area on my horn with suspicion. I lost a bolt on my Conn not too long ago and so I am a bit paranoid.
Great.
