Daren Robbins
Daren Robbins joined the faculty of Mahidol University in 2008. He teaches applied horn lessons, conducts the horn ensemble, teaches courses in brass literature and pedagogy, and performs with the faculty brass and woodwind quintets. He also serves as Head of the Brass and Percussion Division. His orchestral experience includes performances with the Mobile Symphony, La Crosse Symphony, and Dubuque Symphony. Daren is a strong advocate of chamber music and has performed extensively with a wide variety of chamber music ensembles. He has twice been a finalist at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition.
Based on his doctoral dissertation, Orchestral Horn Excerpts is among the most visited horn-related websites on the internet. It has become a standard reference for students and teachers internationally, and has inspired the creation of several similar sites for other instruments. A native of Waterloo, IA, Daren has held previous faculty positions at University of Southern Mississippi and Mansfield University of Pennsylvania. He holds degrees from University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of North Texas, and University of Iowa. His primary teachers include Douglas Hill, William Scharnberg, and Kristin Thelander.
