Professor Corno: Dinosaurs in our Midst

Horn dinosaurs, that is. If you are reading this you probably are not a horn dinosaur, and as an international superstar I am obviously on the cutting edge.  But we all need to get out and do some good old missionary work. There are a lot of lost people out there in relation to the horn and the Internet.

Some people out there are just too old to adjust. Bless their hearts; they really can’t use a computer. There are older, print options they can follow still, but they will only diminish in importance in the coming years.

Ignorant 300x126 Professor Corno: Dinosaurs in our MidstBut for some of those people out there who can use a computer it really is time to wake up. While in the days of old time radio and TV it paid to be ignorant, being ignorant is nothing to be proud of.

Let’s say the dinosaur in question can use E-mail a bit. Perhaps they even use the Horn List, and they send a question on a very basic topic that could easily be searched for in Google and the answer totally found. Perhaps their message looks a bit like this,

SORRY, MY CAPS LOCK IS STUCK. HELP, I CAN’T REMEMBER HOW TO TELL WHICH HORN IS KRUSPE AND WHICH ONE IS GEYER. WHEN DID REYNOLDS GO OUT OF BUSINESS? THE POTTAG MODEL WAS THE BEST HORN EVER MADE. WHERE CAN I BUY A GIARDINELLI C-3 MOUTHPIECE, THE LOCAL STORE SAYS THEY CAN’T GET THEM ANY MORE. OH, AND I DO THE HEAVY ROUTINE A FIFTH HIGHER THAN PRINTED. CORDIALLY, THE HORN GUY

Google? What is that?

Some people are really stuck in the past. But the world of magazines and newsletters is going fast; the world is moving on to more dynamic content.

Finally, a word for those out there with links pages and websites that are years out of date. Hello? Some of these sites were cutting edge like eight or ten years ago but seriously, there are low-traffic backwaters of the Internet and there are other places that have great dynamic content. This is what makes Horn Matters great, all the new content.

Do you know some horn dinosaur who seem to barely knows the difference between the Internet and a hole in the ground? Get out there and do some missionary work, help open their eyes to a new world of options and information. There are cesspools out there on the Internet but also plenty of places that are basically good news content and really useful resources on our favorite instrument; point them in the right directions.
