Thanking Our Advertising Sponsors

For about one year Horn Matters has been supported by a few banner ads that appear in the left-side column.

I use the word “supported” as we are hardly are making huge profits. Our advertising mainly helps us to recover the costs of web hosting and the time involved in developing and fine-tuning the web site.

Pope Instrument Repair first opened its doors in 1989 in a small, damp corner of the basement at 80 Wenham Street in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. In the years since then it has grown to inhabit every inch of that 1300 square foot area, remodeled in 2002.

Ken Pope has been repairing instruments since 1982, including 6 years as head technician at Osmun Brass (now Osmun Music). He is able to offer such services as valve rebuilding, custom horn manufacturing, leadpipe drawing, detachable bell conversions, overhauls, dent removal, valve service, ultrasonic cleaning, rotary valve manufacturing/replacement and custom modifications among other specialties.

The Horn in Opera

Richard Chenowith joined us a few months ago to promote his Horn in Opera CD and website.

Richard Chenoweth is Professor of Horn at the University of Dayton and Principal Horn of the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra. He plays with the Carillon Brass, and for 35 years, has performed as second horn with the Santa Fe Opera.

Mr. Chenowith, among many his many activities, is a regular contributor to The International Horn Society‘s journal, The Horn Call. In the most recent issue in fact, he has an interesting article on Mendelssohn’s Midsummer Night’s Dream.

For You

David Griffin’s For You recording has been positively reviewed in Fanfare magazine:

Griffin handles the special difficulties of the low range with the assurance of, well, a good fourth-horn player, but he also soars (or sky-rockets, as the case may be) into the instrument’s stratosphere with the ease of a Dennis Brain.
