And a few days later, just when Ted thought she’d forgotten about it, he storms her room to confront her about another empty milk carton and finds it empty, save for a blue French horn (sic).

Winter has music in his genes. Both his father and grandfather were professional musicians. His grandfather, a French horn player, offered Winter a custom-crafted French horn when he was 11. Winter jumped on the chance to take up horn with his grandfather.

“I consider myself fortunate. I really had no business with such a fine teacher and instrument. I never had the chance to play (the horn) like a kid and my grandfather made sure I never developed bad habits. Plus, I hated piano lessons,” Winter said.
