  • AA Gill reviews The French Horn
A namesake restaurant gets recognized for atmosphere, but not for its food.

Beckel is a long time performer with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, playing the position of Principal Trombone. His original composition makes its debut at the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra this weekend and features all five members of the ISO Horn section: Robert Danforth (French Horn), Richard Graef (French Horn), Jerry Montgomery (French Horn) Jill Boaz (French Horn) and Julie Beckel (French Horn).

  • Another horn stolen from the boot
Very sad when something like this happens.

A student leaves his $7100 horn in a car trunk. There are only a few payments left – it is almost paid in full. The horn gets stolen from the trunk, just two days before his Brevard audition.  In spite of this setback, he wins a spot.

It is not clear if the horn was insured, but now he is apparently in desperate need in order to attend Brevard. See the Facebook page if you wish to know more details beyond this embedded video.

  • Musicians sue financial minister
In protest the Czech Philharmonic musicians did a boycott performance – entering the stage but refusing to play. It is quite the drama.
  • Coming up this week
More Hornmasters on Right Hand Position, a redux of favorite TV jingles and thoughts on the practice of subtracting until it breaks.
