Looking Back at September 2009: 5 Months of Horn Matters

- Tooting our own horn.
Although it has only been around since September 1, 2009, HORNMATTERS has a unique and long history behind it.
John and I have known each other since college, and we had worked together on the International Horn Society site for several years.
Add to this the fact that we both live and work in the Phoenix area, and our collaboration seemed inevitable.
After only 4 short months, our combined efforts – old and new — are nearing 1000 articles.
This may seem like a lot of information to wade through, but a lot of effort has been put into making HORNMATTERS as user-friendly as possible.
Finding stuff
Besides the easy-to-find search engine in the top left corner, you can:
- Browse by Date or Subject,
- Find articles by Title,
- or look through the various widgets in the top right column, including
- Random articles
- Liked articles
- Serialized articles
Articles have also been organized into lists of related resources (including FAQs, downloads and tips) under Resources. Just play around with the tabs next to the HORNMATTERS logo to find the content you are looking for.
Popular articles and new features
Probably two of the most visited pages at HORNMATTERS are “Playing Tips” and “French Horn Transposition Chart.”
As for what is currently popular, The Top 30 Most Popular Posts page ranks our articles according to external links, social networks and comments.
A relatively new feature is that readers may now like articles in a similar manner that visitors to our Facebook page (467 fans and growing!) are familiar with.
Another new feature is the News page. If you are hosting an event or have other significant horn news please feel free to send us information for posting in this page.
HORNMATTERS averages over 400 daily readers — directly and via RSS feeds. We anticipate that this number will steadily grow over time and we would be happy to help spread the word about your event.
Looking ahead
What plans do we have in the making?
For starters we are hoping to establish HORNMATTERS as an LLC (Limited Liability Corporation) very soon.
With a little legal protection who knows what we might do next? …only kidding… We do have plans to start a podcast at some point but no concrete dates are set yet.
For the time being, John and I plan to keep writing interesting, practical and thoughtful content, which in turn builds the site’s archive. We aim to make HORNMATTERS a premiere and in-depth content resource.
For myself, I am looking forward to hitting the goal of ”one thousand” articles in a few weeks!
