The Midlife Horn Player

Over on Facebook I noticed one of my friends had joined a new group, The Midlife Horn Player. Seeing that, my thoughts then turned to a conversation or two that I had recently. On the positive side the digital culture part of this group interests me, but on the negative side I think of myself as being too young to be in a midlife group. But then again, as I know I said to a student recently, 1979 does not seem like that long ago either.

Anyway, this Facebook group seems off to a good start. The group description is this is “A place where midlife horn players can share their struggles and victories with the orchestra’s most difficult and treacherous instrument.” Groups such as this and blogs and interactive sites such as Horn Matters are great alternates to the older interactive resources such as message boards and the horn lists that run by E-mail. Feel free to check out The Midlife Horn Player group (after you become a Facebook fan of Horn Matters, of course) and keep your eyes peeled for more new resources, things are moving fast in this digital age.
