Bruce Riggs mentions the possibility of a footrest. I'm taller than average, but all the extra height is from my waist to shoulders, so without a footrest, playing "on the leg" doesn't work. An adjustable footrest meant for guitar players works for me, but the lowest setting might be too high for others, depending on the chair.

There are some posture chairs out there that I don't like to sit in much. One other random thing I found out was that in most situations I played at in Taiwan the chairs were too short for me.

For me I avoid that type of musician chair with the built-in, large hump in the seat of the chair. :-( It seems like once a year or so I play a job where the venue has these - - I much prefer a folding chair over the bump in the rump..

I have just recently come to realize the importance of chair height, after returning to horn playing in my 40's. I am tall, and play "on the leg" - some of the Wenger chairs are too tall for me to play comfortably. Maybe some type of foot rest is the answer...
