Video: Basler plays Basler
Wouldn’t you love to see a video of Franz Strauss playing Franz Strauss? Well, that you can’t see but you can see Paul Basler perform Alleluia with the Texas All-State Womens Choir in 2009. This is a great piece; it has to be one of the very best things out there for horn and chorus.
For those not familiar with Dr. Basler, he is a hornist and composer and serves as Professor of Horn at the University of Florida. He has written a number of very fine works for horn in recent years; a favorite in our studio at ASU is Canciones for horn and piano.
Almost as interesting as the video are the comments on YouTube related to the video, clearly from performers in the chorus. My three favorites:
omg i will neverrrr everrr forget this experience..so much fun..and our clinician was amazing
this is my favorite song i have learned in the six years i have been in choir.
wow to have the composer play the horn thats awesome
Congratulations to Basler on a great work and for this great performance.
