What About Mock Auditions?
Or, how about taking real auditions instead? With auditions coming up for seat assignments in ensembles at Arizona State it occurred to me what I like most about seating auditions; they are real.
Many things set apart good and great horn players, but three of them are overall technique, accuracy, and how well they take auditions. Many of you out there reading this post have auditions coming up right now for something important to you. Auditions are never easy but they are very real. Mock auditions are valuable but have an element of fakeness that just can’t be removed totally.
Those few schools that do multiple seating auditions during the year help students the most with learning this process. Real auditions are the best. Prepare as well as you can and take as many real auditions as you can, they will best serve you as you work to reach the highest level you can on the horn.
