My Last Week in Nashville, a New Site, and The Mellocast on IHS Macomb

Or, to borrow a term from Bruce Hembd, this could be called “Random Friday.”

As to my last week in Nashville, this past week I have been converting VHS tapes to DVDs and I got to a tape made in June of 1998. It was of a presentation I gave at the Governor’s School for the Arts on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University on the topic of natural and valved horns in the 19th century. It really was a pretty good presentation that I may also show my students. Besides sounding really good (I was in shape!) the most interesting thing was at the end, where I mentioned that it was my last week in the Nashville Symphony, I was playing first horn that week, I would be back to MTSU on Wednesday to perform Shostakovich 5, and on Friday was also playing the Brandenburg! I am pretty sure my last concert would have been on a Sunday after that and it had Mendelssohn 4 on it. A heavy week! And I sure had a lot of hair still then.

The new site is Horn Insights, the blog of Jeff Agrell. He is off to a great start, check it out!

As to the last item in the post title, after a hiatus the Mellocast is back, and the episode for this week is on IHS 41. Check it out for more about the event and keep checking back there for more interesting middle-brass news and information.
