A Video Audition

Over in the Phoenix Symphony Blog a post caught my attention. It features a horn player who auditioned and got into the YouTube Symphony. It is a timely topic as more and more auditions are requiring a video audition.

First, the video. Any mistakes? Also note the horn support stick or PipStick. These are not used much in the United States and I don’t know the brand of this one but these are sold by Paxman for example (scroll down just a bit on this link).

The hornist is Armin Terzer, A DMA student in Brisbane, Australia. About his video he notes “My videos were recorded and uploaded on the final day of submissions. Video 1 was the 1st French horn part of Tan Dun’s Internet Sympony “Eroica”, and video 2 [the video above] Mozart’s Horn Concerto no.2, 1st movement. Actually I had set up the computer and camera for a friend, and at the end of his recording thought, why not give it a go.”

There is more in the Phoenix Symphony blog post. How many out there can lay down accurately the entire first movement of Mozart 2? Bravo to Armin Terzer, who did win a seat in the YouTube Symphony.
