Review: The Gator GL Case
I bought a case this past fall that I have been asked about a couple times lately.
Buying a case was in itself not that unusual, but the price was unusual for a new case: less than $100. It is a Gator GL. Here is the listing at Woodwind Brasswind.
My only complaints are it is a bit bulky and the zipper catches a bit at one point, but for the price I am happy. Also one other note, it is big inside; it will hold most any horn but will be too big for some, and I for example need to have two small towels in the case with my descant.
This case is similar to a type of case made by several firms—it is sort of a cross between a gig bag and a hard case. In the website they describe it as follows:
This Gator French Horn case is internally constructed from dense EPS foam and the exterior is covered in 600-denier ballistic material. To insure your instrument does not get scratched, the interior is covered in soft plush. The case has external pockets for all your extra gear needs.
It is too bulky for travel/flying but for daily use or protection for a spare horn it is lightweight, inexpensive, and one to consider.
