Beadle Gets a Clam

axe2b1 Beadle Gets a Clam

When will he ever learn?

This is the question I asked myself while reading Columbus Symphony Orchestra Executive Director Tony Beadle’s latest quote from the Columbus Dispatch:

I lament people leaving the orchestra; that’s for sure,” he said. “But every time we have an opening, there are more than 200 applicants. There are many, many qualified musicians out there.

The underlying message of this quote from Tony Beadle is that musicians are a “dime-a-dozen” and are easily replaced. Consultant Drew McManus has appropriately interpreted it as “don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.”

Do these quips from Beadle stem from incredibly poor public relations skills or are they finely-crafted, narcissistic barbs?

Beadle Gets a ClamRegardless, they speak volumes about his attitude towards his job and the orchestra. And it deserves recognition.

For skilled rhetoric and use of metaphor -

  • Comparing an orchestra to a dinosaur…
  • Remarking that said dinosaur needs lots of “hay”…
  • Comparing the Columbus cultural scene to the war in Afghanistan…
  • Looking out for the musician’s posteriors as they exit for greener pastures…

- Horndog Blog proudly presents a Jaded Clam Award (a.k.a. the “Hubie”) to Mr. Tony Beadle.

[Applause and cheers.]

* This is all complete satire and parody. No actual animals or musicians were harmed during this post. So there.
