Ten Years of Horn Articles Online
The post by Bruce Hembd yesterday on the Horndog Blog woke me up to the fact that I forgot to post something last month to point out the tenth anniversary of Horn Articles Online. Early in the summer however I did prepare an article on The History of Horn Articles Online that gives all the major details. To that I have little to add except to note that it has always been a bit of a mystery to me why there are so few sites similar to mine. It would seem like others could do this, but then again I have had unique opportunities and experiences, which is part of why the site was created and still exists today.
Also I want to thank Bruce not only for the cool graphic in his post [me as a Simpson! Cool. But am I really that bald? Ok, I am on the way…] but also for his help over the years and for his substantial work in general for the horn on the Internet. When my site started Bruce was the webmaster of the IHS Online. He was of help to me way back then starting out, and as I note in the longer article he actually named the site (something I don’t think he knew). Later, for more than six years, we also worked together on the IHS website. Now we are both blogging on the horn and both live in the Phoenix area. We actually first met at Eastman, I started a MM the year he was a junior. Who would have thunk it, that we would both be where we are now all these years later?

How many currently active brass quintets have reached 40 years? Not many, the only three that I know of are the American Brass Quintet (1960), the St. Louis Brass Quintet (1964) and the Potsdam Brass Quintet (1968), the faculty brass quintet of the Crane School of...
