Lemonade from Lemons, Gas from Garbage

…or rather, gasoline from garbage.

A story published last June from the St. Petersburg Times features the extraordinary ingenuity of Brandon Beck, acting principal horn of the Florida Orchestra.

Like many mid-sized American orchestras, the Florida Orchestra’s salaries and concert schedule are being slimmed down. To make up for the difference Mr. Beck got creative and began manufacturing his own bio-diesel fuel.

Beck, who lives in an RV with his horn-playing wife, travels between 450 to 600 miles weekly to play gigs. His home-brewed diesel fuel costs him about 80 cents per gallon – a substantial savings over the current price of fuel at the pump.
