Eckhart Retires from Arizona State

Yesterday the retirement reception was held for collaborative pianist Eckhart Sellheim, celebrating his nineteen year career at ASU. I first met Eckhart when I interviewed for the professor of horn position, he was the pianist for the recital portion of my interview. I went on to collaborate with him on several recitals and especially on my second solo CD, Canto, my personal favorite among all my recordings.

Madsen100 Eckhart Retires from Arizona StateThe CD was reviewed in The Horn Call as a “terrific collaboration between horn and piano.” And it is! While I am sure that I could have made a good and generally similar CD with another pianist, this CD owes much to the artistry of Eckhart. I still come back to the CD and marvel at some of the nuances in the Schumann, Madsen, and Nielsen selections, and the Danzi has many wonderful embellishments that simply have to be heard.

If you have not checked out the Canto CD I do recommend it very highly and again congratulations and best wishes to Eckhart.
