The Big Bottom Band at ASU

Tonight we were treated at ASU to a special concert by the Big Bottom Band, featuring ASU tuba faculty Sam Pilafian and Patrick Sheridan with Michael Kocour on piano. It was amazing, entertaining, and uniquely Sam and Pat, played to a packed Recital Hall. A mixture of works recorded on their RooDoo VooDoo CD, a cut off Dos Amigos, and other things that I had never heard them do and I have heard them do a lot. Most of it featured improvisations, there were many surprises. Technique like crazy, stuff that just can’t be done on a horn and I don’t know how they are doing it on tuba. Yet another reason to check out The Brass Gym.
