Video: Baumann Plays the B-minor Mass on Descant
A video recently made the rounds of the horn list that is very worth viewing. It is of Hermann Baumann playing the B-minor mass, No. 11, Quoniam tu solus sanctus. Baumann performs this work on what appears to be a single F (or perhaps G) descant, very similar (but not identical) to the ASU single F Alexander descant. Baumann is one of my favorite horn players ever.
One note I would add is that while the video is a bit out of sync with the sound, you can still tell that Baumann is using a number of alternate fingerings, 3 instead of 12, 13 instead of 0, etc. The intonation sounds great, but he was really working to get it that tuned up and beautiful on the single descant.
UPDATE: Looking at the video further the instrument is definitely a G descant. Great playing.
