Background on Introducing the Horn

To continue my series on my initial publications, the third project I started on was Introducing the Horn: Essentials for New Hornists and Their Teachers. In this book I attempt to cover in one volume the range of performance-related topics that are the most essential in IntroducingTheHornCoverSmall Background on Introducing the Horngiving a new hornist a good start. The ideal resource book for beginners, those converting to the horn, and music educators.

I had been encouraged and challenged to create a book of this type. There have been other books written along a similar vein, but hopefully this volume will make an impact. What most inspired me to write this was a conversation with a Masters Degree music education student the previous year who commented that the horn was the instrument students were most likely to quit. Which on reflection I realized was a pretty accurate statement. In Arizona especially we could easily have twice as many horn players at the high school level. I hope this volume makes the desired impact in the field, and contributes to the development of more and better horn players at the junior high and high school level.
