Another Way to Improve Your Instrument

College students all across the United States have performance exams coming right up, and there are always auditions and performances on the horizon. A better instrument can help you have a better performance.

There is a very inexpensive way to improve the one you own today! It is called cleaning your horn.

While I have met players who were very fastidious and cleaned their horn semi-weekly, most of us are a bit lazy. Today, the day after Thanksgiving, is an especially good day to clean your horn as many players have the day off (at least many students have the day off). If your horn is very dirty it will take a while to clean but even just blowing water through the lead pipe for a few minutes will help a good bit toward getting the “stuff” off the inside of your horn. You know you should do it, give your horn a cleaning, it will make your horn a better horn. And don’t forget your mouthpiece!
